Senior Linux Engineer

Responsibilities
You will be part of a team which is responsible for administering a massive linux cluster performing high throughput transactions under high concurrency. You will manage and mentor a small team of administrators and ensure that the server infrastructure meets the committed SLAs for the business. Challenges will include:

• Day-to-day operational support and maintenance of Linux servers.
• Perform system optimisation and improvement.
• Perform Advanced Unix Troubleshooting.
• Incidence response & management.
• Deployment, upgrading, monitoring and administration of Linux infrastructure.
• Patching of OS and applications as per Unix Best Practices.
• Disaster Recovery Planning and execution.
• Generation and analysis of SLA reports.
• Interaction with other departments and teams for implementation of new services and or changes to current architecture.

• Self - motivated and confident.
• Proven competence on RHEL 6.0 and other Linux environments (Fedora, Ubuntu etc.).
• Familiarity with and knowledge of common open source products will be preferred.
• Proven management experience of a small team of people.
• Drive, achievement, quality, and service orientation, and able to work under pressure.
• Strong planning and process management skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to follow standards and procedures, and use monitoring and testing tools in systems monitoring and management.
• Ability to identify problems, evaluates for criticality, and takes appropriate action.
• Ability to document and communicate system performance using documentation standards and dissemination procedures.

• Engineer with 6+ Years with technical support and trouble-shooting experience.
• Minimum 30 months server administration in a multi - server Linux environment (in various stages i.e. development, test and production).
• Experience with RedHat V4 Enterprise Server Architectures.
• Implementation of monitoring Services.
• Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of operating systems, Web Server Applications (Apache, JBoss, Tomcat.).
• Competency in writing scripts (PHP & PERL).
• Minimum 12 months with MySQL (installation, maintenance, optimisation).
• Monitoring of system processes and security and understanding of network design and protocols.
• Solid working experience, with standard system and internet services and protocols such as: FTP, DNS, LDAP, RPC, DHCP, NIS, HTTP/S and Proxy.
• Certification in any of the above areas as an advantage.
